5 Spice Powder

Ingredients (~1⁄2 cup)

  • 6 whole star anise pods
  • 1‌1⁄2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 Tbs fennel seeds
  • 2 tsp szechuan peppercorn (or 3 tsp black peppercorns)

Directions

  1. Toast any dry whole spices in a dry skillet, until fragrant, 2-3 minutes.
  2. Place all ingredients in a spice grinder and grind until smooth.
  3. Store in a sealed, airtight spice jar - and for best flavor use within 6 months.
