5 Spice Powder
Ingredients (~1⁄2 cup)

6 whole star anise pods

11⁄2 tsp whole cloves

1 cinnamon stick

2 Tbs fennel seeds

2 tsp szechuan peppercorn (or 3 tsp black peppercorns)
Directions

Toast any dry whole spices in a dry skillet, until fragrant, 2-3 minutes.

Place all ingredients in a spice grinder and grind until smooth.

Store in a sealed, airtight spice jar - and for best flavor use within 6 months.
