Synopsis: A musician who gave up everything for her dream of rock-and-roll stardom returns home to attend her son's wedding.

As always, Ms. Streep gives an amazing performance. This is nice film, with only occassional trauma, though that is quite painful. The music is fairly well done and the depiction of the life of an unsuccessful rock star is quite good.

For some of us, though, rock and roll just doesn't make it. Often it is portrayed as some sort of magical thing that can fix all. This movie falls into that trope several times. Watching Ricki and her ex-husband smoking pot that just happens to be in his upper middle class freezer is just a bit too much. And the song she selects to play at her son's wedding is just inappapropriate.

Still, the performances are good and the story is heart-warming enough and Streep is wonderful enough that all this can be overlooked and the movie can be enjoyed.
